Jimi Hendrix and Curtis Knight & The Squires - Complete Live Recordings (flac)

Here are all circulating live recordings of Jimi with Curtis Knight*.
I got this from Niko Bauer, but I'm pretty sure the tracklisting
corresponds to ATM 101-102. I'm not into artwork, but please
feel free to cook up some tasty covers!
    Enjoy these historic recordings!

    * The line is kind of blurry between Knight/Hendrix studio and live recordings. See earlyhendrix.com for discussion.

    Er... trust me, I know.
It's no mistake - he was Jimmy James aka Jimmy Hendrix until summer 1966 , dear shomin.

I haven't presented myself, but anyway I've been a major fan since '91 and started trading around '95. It was more of a sport, perhaps, to
contact traders, send parcels and run drooling to the mailbox.
On the other hand, this is more convenient, and this forum is a great thing!

Re: Jimi Hendrix and Curtis Knight & The Squires - Complete Live Recordings (flac)

One minor detail I find necessary to elaborate a little further:
Jimi Hendrix was never known as Jimmy Hendrix.
He was known as Jimmy James, or Maurice James.
Later when he arrived in England he changed it to Jimi Hendrix.
So, Jimmy Hendrix was never really an option.

One more question. Did Niko sent these files as audio or data discs?

Aren't many of these live performances on the official releases "Live at Georges Club" A363, "Something on Your Mind" A367 and "On the Killing Floor" A368 and the PPX collection? Are they from different sources such as audience recordings?

Cool Re: Jimi Hendrix and Curtis Knight & The Squires - Complete Live Recordings (flac)

    OK, stop the nitpicking.

    Dcwestrie -
Yes, it's the recordings you mention,
but many of the tracks on those albums
have been altered - drum and bass overdubs
and echo have been added, for example.
These are the least altered source, some from
    tape, some from vinyl.

"Official" - well, mr Chalpin have no rights to release
these live recorings, and E Hendrix have stopped at least
    one compilation (on Jungle records).

While these recordings would probably not be allowed
on, for example, dimeadozen.org, "Emilovious" posted a torrent with altered/incomplete versions of a few of the same songs, so I gathered this material was OK here.

Re: Jimi Hendrix and Curtis Knight & The Squires - Complete Live Recordings (flac)

Yes, Chalpin owns the rights to release only the studio stuff (26 tracks). However, he butchered those recordings so badly, making out of 26 tracks nearly a hundred "different" titles so he himself probably doesn't know what's original and what's been overdubbed after so many years - lol!
Of course, this material is allowed. Those guys on DIME has been scared pretty badly few years ago but they've been a little too-strict anyway, if you ask me....
Considering my previous torrent, my intention was to neither post all Curtis Knight live stuff nor the best quality stuff. If you listen to Dino77's torrent you'll notice that in fact there are at least two bands playing on these tracks (if not more) in at least two different venues. The tracks on the compilation I posted seem to all be recorded at the same venue (just impression, not a fact since there's no real info for nether of them - only specualtion). Same sound, same line-up (this we CAN verify). Also among all the Curtis Knight stuff that had been released over the past 40 years these seem to be less exploited. For what reason I don't know. But on those versions of Killing Floor, I'm a Man, Twist and Shout, Waking the Dog, Hey Bo Didley or Hang on Sloopy Jimi played significant role if not the central one but nevertheless they seem to have appeared on very few Curtis Knight-Hendrix releases. Strange, isn't it? Also, those tracks, even recorded poorer than most of other live Knight-Hendrix stuff registered the band in better mood and quite enjoying themselves and that's the reason why I choose to post that title.
I'm also not a huge fan of the "COMPLETE" titles. Complete this or complete that. For some reason I have a feeling that nobody ever listen to them. Yes, they are indispensable, especially for collectors and very welcome, of course, but I prefer compilations with a concept. "Completness" isn't that much of a concept to me...

Re: Jimi Hendrix and Curtis Knight & The Squires - Complete Live Recordings (flac)

Since this torrent is obviously a copy of the ATM title, here's the original ATM cover.
However, before you archive these files, I'd like Dino77 to answer my question about the lineage of these files. Did he get them in Audio or data? If he got them in audio I wouldn't advise anyone to keep them for sharing but just for casual listening.

Regarding the "Jimmy"-discussion, see label below. This is the original 1966 single release:

Re: Jimi Hendrix and Curtis Knight & The Squires - Complete Live Recordings (flac)

For me, that only proves that the guy who wrote it didn't know the exact spelling of his (new) name and tried to profit on his (new) fame.
There's plenty of these misspellings especially on the early Chalpin's productions.

Even if the above theory isn't true, that doesn't prove much since Jimi never officially changed his name. On his obituary states: James Marshall Hendrix.
So, again, the guy who wrote the above name didn't know his real name (he thought he knew - obviously didn't ask Jimi). Jimi called himself Jimmy James, Maurice James and Jimi Hendrix. His real name was James Marshall Hendrix. He never used the name - Jimmy Hendrix - FACTS!

    P.S.
I can easily find the cover from the 1967 or 1968 (even after Jimi's death)
with Jimmy Hendricks spelling - would that prove anything?
    Don't think so...

There was no fame yet in 1966 so nobody would be cashing in on that. Here is a 1966 publishing contract with RSVP that Jimi has signed "Jimmy Hendrix":

First, Thanks for the post. Looks great.

Hendrix did change the spelling from Jimmy to Jimi. According to the movie, his producer recommended it. I don't know if he used that name on stage or not.

Likewise, if you look at Yes' first album, you'll see "John Anderson". Even in later pressings. He changed the spelling after that album and they maintain the original spelling.

    Hi,
Re my earlier allowed posting. I have no problems with the posting, but I do think we run a set of double standards and any track remotely related to an MCA/ EH release is banned, even if the released track has been redubbed, or a few seconds of a track has been used on "Live and Unreleased" etc.
