    1969-01-11 Hamburg 2nd show

    Jimi Hendrix Experience

    Musikhalle, Hamburg 1969-01-11 2nd show
lineage: master > wav > flac

    1st part (1-4) heavily eq´d
    taped by Wilfried Lilie

This concert was taped by W. Lilie, who hid the microphone under his coat for the first 4 songs, as he was afraid someone would find out he was taping. Thank God he did not give a shit anymore after that, as we now have a very nice sounding recording for the remaining tracks. The last known live version of Driving South...1969...ultra rare! All thanks have to go to Wilfried for sharing his tape with us! Transferred by Doc Tinker and Olvator in 2010. Thanks for your help, Doc!
The first 4 tracks were heavily equalized for better listening purposes, no noise reduction was applied. The remaining tracks have been left untouched.

Hamburg Jan 11th 1969 was a good day for the Experience. Both shows included musical highlights, sadly the recording known for the first show sounds very bad. I was more than happy to find out about this recording of the 2nd show in late 2009. The band is in good spirits, as you are about to hear for yourself. Enjoy, pass it on, never sell it and don´t convert it to mp3. And never forget to thank Wilfried, without whom none of this would have been possible!

Thanks Olvator! what a great show. It sure makes up for the bad audio from the 1st show. Surprisingly, Hendrix didn't play purple haze during the two hamburg concerts, either that or it wasn't recorded.

There is sadly not a picture of Jimi with his SG from the second show, otherwise i`d had used it for the art....too bad. But the ones we have from first show are great shots as well...

I guess no one knows. And all the people who continuously have infos to share about it being Berlin, Strassbourg and or Vienna are IMHO wandering around in an area of pure speculation....Only Goldstein should be able to tell and maybe some knowledgable people at EH. I guess it comes from the fact that you can at least see short clips of the band touring from Berlin and also Vienna...so for those shows at least there was a film crew around. But if they had been around all the tour, wouldn´t there have been other snippets from other places in the rough cut as well....hell, i just don´t know. Maybe there was some official statement regarding this from EH i have missed? I would surely wish it was the case for the Hamburg shows as i think it was a good day for the band musically. But i doubt they filmed it. Also double miking for a professional sound recording in those days is not evident in most of the pics from the spring european tour...

I believe this comes from the Royal Albert Hall lawsuit legal documents link http://wavenewspapers.com/arts_and_e...tml?TNNoMobile

Specifically inside the link it states
The Hendrix concerts were performed in Austria, France and Germany and at the Royal Albert Hall in London. They were recorded by Goldstein and the late producer Steve Gold with the intention of producing and distributing a motion picture about the performances, the suit states.
